Area
Cousine Island is 25 hectares (62 acres), around 1.4 km in length, 800 m in width, and located in the Seychelles archipelago. It is the first exclusive eco-luxury private island in the world to adopt a conservation-based management model where the ecotourism development assures that the revenue made by the hotel is reinvested into the island’s long-term sustainability of conservation. There is a 100% dedication to the preservation of the Seychelles environment.
During six months of the year, Cousine Island is home to various migratory birds; hawksbill turtles come ashore to nest and green turtles, rare to the Seychelles, nest occasionally throughout the year.
The philosophy of the island is to ensure conservation and to contribute directly to the region’s biodiversity by involving direct and tangible benefits to the environment. Guests are encouraged to actively participate in the conservation work on Cousine Island by planting indigenous trees and assisting island ecologists in monitoring the endangered marine turtles and birds. After their stay on Cousine Island, guests will have a deeper knowledge of the environment and will leave with a sense of belonging to nature.
There are two different seasons on Cousine Island: November–March: Rainy season; turtle breeding season April–October: Dry season; bird breeding season
