A private paradise in the heart of Positano
Villa Bianca (Maestro Zeffirelli Suite) is a luxury villa which is part of the two-hectares estate Villa Treville, a relais that includes four private villas and several common areas with five-star hotel services.
Villa Bianca also known as the Maestro Franco Zeffirelli Suite, used to be the artist’s historic home, who lived here from the 1960s. Thanks to him, the villa became a haven for intellectuals, artistes, dancers, musicians, and of course actors. Liz Taylor, Leonard Bernstein, Laurence Olivier, Maria Callas, Liza Minnelli, Elton John, Carla Fracci and the Kessler Twins are just some of the villa’s famous guests.
It was here that Leonard Bernstein wrote the soundtrack of the film ‘Brother Sun, Sister Moon’ and where Zeffirelli himself wrote some of his major theatrical works.
The two-hectare estate, located on a private stretch of the Amalfi coast overlooking the clear waters of Positano, has become an exclusive villa-relais on the sea. Lawns and gardens, pergola entwined with wisteria and majolica tiles are interspersed with vegetable gardens and centuries-old tropical plants. Amid this riot of harmonious colours and scents emerge four dream-like houses, which over time have become dwellings that are part of the very fabric of the landscape.
Fifteen suites in four independent houses constitute this incredible relais on the sea. Villa Bianca, Villa Rosa, Villa Azzurra and Villa Tre Pini.
The estate’s vegetable gardens and the waters around the Li Galli Islands provide fresh produce that the chef combines perfectly in his dishes. Guests are invited to taste them too.
Guests love dining on the terrace, in the shade of the immense lime tree, or by candlelight, enjoying gazing over most beautiful panoramas in the world.
Villa Bianca (Maestro Zeffirrelli) is the most spacious and prestigious of the whole property. It boasts several terraces, as well as a drawing room, a dining room, three bedrooms and three bathrooms.
Three spacious en-suite bedrooms:
The main bedroom on the first floor is furnished with Syrian mother-of-pearl furniture that used to belong to Zeffirelli himself, while the bathroom is adorned with Carrara marble, gold decoration, a bathtub with a view of the sea and a large shower cubicle.
The other two bedrooms on the upper floor, each with their own bathrooms, are distinguished by different décor: the first in an alternation of white and blue split by a bright red, original floors, a private terrace overlooking the sea and a frieze dating from 1781; the second in soft white that adds to its luminosity and decorated with a rich collection of Sicilian ceramics. Both offer breathtaking views that immediately impart a sense of peace and harmony.
The iconic representation of an Amalfi town Positano’s buildings cling in tiers to the rock face. The small houses all huddling on top of each other form the subject of endless photos. The white of the buildings a perfect canvas for the bright flowers which decorate the houses and the small artisans', shops with their multihued cloths.
An unbelievable vista welcomes the visitor: in 1953 John Steinbeck wrote: ‘Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone. More than 50 years on his words still ring true.
Getting around Positano is largely a matter of walking: there are dozens of narrow alleys and stairways that make walking relatively easy and joyously traffic-free. Otherwise, an orange bus follows the lower ring road every half-hour passing along Viale Pasitea, Via Cristoforo Colombo and Via Marconi.
Positano is one of the thirteen towns that comprise the Amalfi Coast and Villa Bianca is ideally situated to explore other nearby towns such as Ravello, Amalfi and Sorrento.
The Amalfi coast has been declared one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites for its undisputed beauty and the uniqueness of its natural landscape.
