Location

Formentera is the smaller and more southerly island of the Balearic Islands (Spain). The island is 19 kilometres (12 mi) long and is located about 6 kilometres (4 mi) south of Ibiza in the Mediterranean Sea. Formentera is renowned across Europe for its pristine white beaches and nude sunbathing.

Formentera has a distinctive outline dominated by the wild and imposing Cap de Barbaria in the south west, the majestic cultivated plateau of La Mola in the east, the long peninsula of Es Trocadores reaching towards S’Espalmador, Ibiza to the north and the rugged, but beautiful, western ‘Ponent’ coast, surrounding the lovely inlet of Cala Sahona. This dramatic coastline encompasses majestic cliffs rising out of the sea, which has forged deep caves in their base whilst protective lighthouses stand guard above. The long, white sandy beaches are speckled with welcoming chiringitos (beach bars) offering refreshing drinks and delicious tapas.

Quiet coves give shelter to the fishing boats nestling on their slipways. The warm waters of the Mediterranean envelop Formentera and invite you to swim or snorkel during the sun-drenched days of your holiday. Inland, the landscape is a patchwork of fertile fields divided by dry stone walls and interspersed with pine woods and vineyards.

Although the island’s various areas are well connected by roads and cars can be easily hired in the port, many people choose to explore the island riding a moped or bicycle.

Distances (approx.):
Nearest town (La Mola) – 15 minutes’ drive
Nearest beach (Es Calo) – 15 minutes’ drive
La Savina Port – 35 minutes’ drive
Ibiza Airport – 45 minutes’ drive + 45 minutes’ ferry ride
