The charming Istrian coastline is dotted with towns with alley-hugging houses built around churches and the inland is renowned for its pretty medieval hilltop villages. Visitors enjoy taking the sun at the beach and taking some fresh air in the rustic interior of rolling hills and fertile plains. Istria has a long and interesting history and a cross-cultural heritage. Italian people have lived in the towns for many decades and this gives a special touch to the urban areas, while Croats occupied the countryside. As a result, the cuisine is very diverse and tasty. It is worth having a gastronomic and fine dinner in a village or seafood along the coast.
The One is the perfect spot for nature and sport aficionados. The entrance to the Učka Nature Park is within walking distance. From there, visitors can find kilometres of hiking trails, eight mountain biking routes, and 62 routes for free climbing. It is also possible to do paragliding.
Beaches and the Adriatic Sea are a few minutes away by car or bicycle.
Natural wonders and cultural sites such as Plitvice lakes & waterfalls (UNESCO listed), Pula with its ancient Roman Amphitheatre and Opatija, and a resort built 170 years ago for the European aristocracy are the highlights of the region.
