On the doorstep of Rome, this opulent seafront estate has been a home to royalty and Jean Paul Getty.
Built by Italian royalty in 1640 above the ruins of two Imperial Roman villas, La Posta Vecchia is a special place. Heading the project was Prince Orsini and for centuries, the Italian/Hungarian Odescalchi aristocratic family used the residence for esteemed guests and travellers en route to Rome.
Jean Paul Getty, oil tycoon, philanthropist, and world-renowned art collector, restored the property as his Italian seaside hideaway and commissioned Federico Zeri to decorate it with 17th-century European furniture, tapestries and paintings.
This immaculate, luxurious, and historical property, filled with antiques, books, and paintings, is situated on the rocks overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, just forty minutes from the centre of Rome. The villa also serves as a magnificent museum, exhibiting the remains of its two ancient Roman villas, their mosaics, and various other artefacts.
The gated property provides seclusion and absolute tranquility. Facilities include an indoor heated swimming pool with sea views and direct access to the villa’s own private beach. Close attention has been paid to the landscaping of the gardens surrounding the villa, making them enjoyable places in which to stroll or relax. The LPV beauty centre has a wide range of treatments available and Quietness Yoga with a qualified instructor is offered.
More vigorous pursuits can be arranged, including tennis, horse-riding and golf. Guests are welcome to borrow a bicycle and take to the paths that run along the coast or request a boat ride to nearby coastal spots. Guided tours of the many intriguing and beautiful Etruscan ruins in the vicinity are also available on request.
La Posta Vecchia is the ideal property to host corporate meetings. There is a meeting room which includes the latest state-of-the-art equipment technology, high-speed Internet connectivity (both cable and wireless), audio-visual technology, back-lit projector, microphones and sound system, and video conferencing. Located in one of the towers, the room has natural light and can accommodate up to 50 people.
The spacious interior and exterior spaces offer a unique site for conventions, product launches, conferences, fashion shows, exhibitions, award ceremonies and weddings. On the ground floor, three charming rooms (the fireplace room, the Vanvitelli room and the Getty studio room) are a perfect setting for up to 70 people and can be combined in different ways to suit any special event. Further, one or more gazebos can be set up in the gardens surrounding the villa for outdoor activities or special needs.

La Posta Vecchia is a magnificent seafront property situated just over an hour’s drive outside of Rome.
In the villa’s immediate surroundings is Cerveteri, an important city during Etruscan times, which still offers evidence of the Necropolis, a city of tombs which is the best preserved and most notable of the Etruscan ruins. The Etruscan Necropolis at Cerveteri is a uniquely haunting archaeological site, built by a prosperous community between the 7th and 3rd centuries BC.
The property is not far from the old village of Tarquinia – a charming medieval town with Renaissance and neoclassic touches. It lies inland from the Thyrrenian Sea and is just north of Civitavecchia.
Guests can enjoy guided tours of many of the surrounding cities and towns including Rome, Cerveteri, Lake Bracciano, Ostia and Tivoli to name but a few.
