A luxurious Italian chalet in the heart of the Dolomites
San Lorenzo Mountain Lodge is located in the Italian region of South Tyrol. It is a romantic chalet set in 42 acres of woodland and meadows with dramatic views across the three valleys, an equally blissful haunt in summer or winter.
Each and every detail bespeaks the owners’ (Stefano and Giorgia) sureness of style and design skills. Valuable antiques have been lovingly preserved or faithfully restored, modern objects cautiously fitted in, with a perfect feel for balance and harmony. The elegance of exclusive textiles and the sheer beauty of the furniture combine with the austerity of natural materials to create an atmosphere of serenity.
The breakfast and dining room have kept the original structure of the old kitchen, which has been preserved and skilfully adapted to accommodate the most state-of-the-art kitchen equipment, catering to the wishes of the most discriminating chef.
Meals, verging on Michelin Star, are prepared by Giorgia and served in the original ‘stübe’, while wines for dinners are selected by Stefano in the wine cellar, where he will show his passion for regional wines.
Along with the kitchen and stübe, the ground floor also contains a multi-functional study cum home-entertainment room, equipped with modern communication technology.
The living area is composed of an open-plan lounge with a masonry fireplace along with a tea parlour, a traditional stübe and a TV room. The so-called tea parlour has been converted into an attractive conversation and reading room, equipped with lounge suites and chairs by Baxter and Flamant, drawing its charm from the contrast between the ancient rustic structure and the modern luxury of its furnishings.
San Lorenzo Mountain Lodge has four bedrooms, three of which are double, and all with lovely views over the mountains or meadows. Two of the doubles have en-suite bathrooms and the third shares a bathroom with the fourth, which is a double bunk room ideal for children.
The lodge has an external whirlpool (500 cm x 300 cm for 10 people), perfect for late-night dips, overlooked by the mountains that surround the chalet, a spa built with ancient wood and quartzite, a Finnish sauna and a Turkish bath with chromo therapy lamps, an emotion shower and an indoor whirlpool (200 cm x 200 cm for four people).
To counteract the over-indulgence, the extensive Dolomiti Superski Area is an accessible 15-minute drive away or four minutes by helicopter directly from the lodge to the top of the slopes.
There are several trekking trails around the lodge. The owner, Stefano, with the zeal of a rural convert, leads guests on adventurous walks to pick mushrooms (in season) and climb trees (suitable for children of all ages). Riding, zip-lining, and mountain biking are also available.
San Lorenzo Mountain Lodge is the ideal home base for all alpine sports. Those who insist on novelty can spend each day of their stay skiing on a different slope or conquering yet another peak.
Helicopter flights over the legendary Dolomite peaks offer cultural excursions, shopping tours to Cortina, Kitzbühel, Venice or Milan. Stefano and Giorgia will gladly advise and help, sharing with their guests their practical expertise and personal experiences.
Completed in October 2012, the lodge’s own golf course is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece and the result of a unique collaboration between renowned American golf course architect, Ron Kirby, and Paolo Gueltrini, a young golf designer from Ravenna. Together, they have created nine flag positions and six tees with three flags of different colours positioned on the green. Guests can play 18 extremely enjoyable and challenging par 3 holes at 1,200 metres altitude.
The green includes a replica of the famous Valley of Sin from St. Andrews Old Course in Scotland. One of the steepest courses in the world, golfers look out across the tops of the magnificent Dolomites from a course that blends with the surrounding grass and woodland. For further golfing, the lodge’s helipad allows guests to travel to many other famous courses, where, in most cases, the helicopter is able to land next to the green at some of the best courses in the Alps.
