Charming waterfront property with opulent interiors and amazing gardens perfect for romantic weddings
Dating from 1700, this luxury Lake Como villa was originally the property of Count Passalacqua who had inherited it from a Papal family. The famous composer, Vincenzo Bellini, once lived here for four years and inspired by the beauty of the place, wrote some of his most beautiful operas, such as Norma and Sonnambula. Other famous people who have lived here are Winston Churchill and Napoleon Bonaparte, to name just a few.
This five-star property extends from the village of Moltrasio all the way down to the lake shore and has amazing gardens with beautiful fountains and plants. Guests at this luxury historic villa can spend a memorable family holiday or a one-of-a-kind wedding or event.
The impressive property boasts a large swimming pool surrounded by lemon and olive trees. There is also a beautiful greenhouse. The property ends at the lake shore where its beautiful dock can be found: the walls and the steps leading to the water are constructed of antique Moltrasio stone and the whole area is adorned with roses, creeping jasmine and oleanders.
The juxtaposition of the property’s simple exterior design and the beautifully decorated and painted interior with its elaborate ceilings and Venetian chandeliers is altogether charming. The floors are a mixture of cotto lombardo, seminato, and dark antique wood and around every corner, guests will be delighted by the antiques, sculptures and amazing paintings.
The oval dining room has marble floors and boasts a beautiful fresco by Andrea Appiani, a famous neoclassical artist. The living area has a marble fireplace and lovely views.
The fully equipped kitchen with wine coolers and all the modern amenities has beautifully decorated, hand-carved wood furnishings. The most prominent feature of the kitchen are the two original stone fireplaces that still bear the Passalacqua family emblem.
On the ground floor, Villa Passalacqua features a billiards room with a hand-carved English snooker table. There is plenty to do at the villa, should guests want to spend their evenings indoors – they can watch a movie in the cinema, which houses one of the villa’s most incredible fireplaces and an exquisite mahogany bar, or stay active in the workout room with views over the lake and the mountains. There is something for every taste.
All the nine suites in the main villa Passalacqua are uniquely decorated, and boast high and carved ceilings, antique floors and luxurious bathrooms. The guest house, villa Bellini, features four bedrooms.
There is art and culture everywhere you look – there is a beautifully restored antique piano that was once in the Leipzig Concert Hall. It is now in the spectacular music room with its 30-foot-high ceilings, Albertolli frescoes and stunning views of the lake.
This luxurious property is perfect for groups of friends or large families with children, as there is a beautiful children’s play area with wooden slide, swings and ropes. There is also a large children’s play room on the first floor next to the music room and a small children’s play room next to the kitchen, so the little ones will have plenty of entertainment while at the property. The villa and its exquisite gardens are also perfect for hosting weddings or corporate events.
