Sunny, elevated position, with stunning views of the lake
In 1911, a wealthy industrial family from Milan built Villa Concetta in Argegno, a picturesque holiday resort on the west shore of Lake Como. The villa’s sunny, elevated position offers stunning views of the lake with its beautiful location allowing views from the headland of Bellagio to the pre-Alps in the north and as far as Nesso to the south. Just in front of the villa is the classic S. Sisinnio church depicted in a Winston Churchill water colour painting which he painted while in the garden of Villa Concetta.
While the house and garden were fully restored in 2012, all the original details and materials were preserved – marble and terracotta floors, doors, ironworks, and decoration all date from 1911. Antique furniture, paintings, and statues create a very exclusive atmosphere. A Roman-origin pedestrian road leads from the villa to Argegno and the lake, covering an 800-metre path, with a height difference of 80 metres. Argegno (280 metres above sea level) is situated in a large, sunny inlet on the western shore of Lake Como, between Laglio (where George Clooney’s house is located) and Tremezzo, a favourite place for many VIPs.
Argegno is a favourite destination for tourists who like to visit Lake Como. It has a pleasant climate, being mild even in the winter months. It certainly dates to Roman times, as is evident from the stone bridge on the Telo stream. The ancient centre of the village is very picturesque and its restaurants, bars, coffee shops, pubs, attract tourists from the western shore of the lake. Hydrofoil and tourist boats connect Argegno to Como and the main areas of interest.
From Argegno is possible to take a cable car to Pigra and the Argegno-Cima della Duaria conservation area (881 metres), which is situated on a plateau that enjoys beautiful views of the lake and of the pre-Alps.
