Cecilia Trabia is situated right by the seaside, being only 50 metres away from the sea. It is just outside the village of Trabia.
Trabia is a village located on the coast, 34 km east of Palermo, on the sea route 113 that goes to Cefalù and Messina.
Within proximity there are former buildings of the tuna fisheries from the 16th century and also a small tourist port. The main house is surrounded by an ancient loquat garden known as “Big Garden of Principi Lanza di Trabia;” the Lanza family being one of the most important aristocratic families in Sicily. Their Castle, built in the 10th century on sea rocks, is only 200 m from Villa Cecilia and can be visited on request.
The villa is conveniently located for cultural/artistic tours in western Sicily (tours can be organised by the concierge team). Sicily is proud to be the Italian region with the highest number of UNESCO cultural sites (9 out of the 51 Italian sites are in Sicily).
The UNESCO cultural site is dominated by Arab-Norman Palermo and the cathedral churches of Cefalù and Monreale, which are 40 mins driving distance away, and six other UNESCO cultural and natural sites in Sicily are within 1h 30min - 2h 30min reach.
Trabia is also recognised as the birthplace of pasta. The production of pasta in this village was first mentioned in a historical document describing the discovery made by the Arab geographer Al-Idrisi in 1150 AD.
