Villa Maiani is located near Mazara del Vallo which is considered one of the most important fishing villages in Italy in recent history and has a sumptuous history and culture to explore. This area gained popularity in 1998 when a bronze statue was found in the Strait of Sicily, by a local fisherman. It is believed that the statue, named Satiro danzarte, was originally sculpted by Greek artist Praxiteles, and so tourists flocked to visit, garnering an advertising campaign with the slogan Mazara del Satiro. Other attractions nearby include the remains of Norman Castle, Royal Saint Nicholas Church, the Seminary surrounding Piazza della Republica, as well as The Basil Cathedral of the Santissimo Salvatore situated in front of the piazza, and St Vitus on the sea. A feast to honour St Vitus (patron Saint of Mazara del Vallo) is held annually.
