Where luxurious elegance meets a homely atmosphere
Chalet Maurice in Zermatt is located in the exclusive Petit Village area and is reached by a private funicular railway leading up from river level. Perched on a hillside with the most spectacular views over the Matterhorn and the village, the chalet is only a few minutes’ walk or taxi ride from the Sunnegga Funicular and the town centre.
A very spacious and supremely luxurious double chalet with three floors, Chalet Maurice is a stylish alpine retreat which was designed by the famous architect Magali von Tscharner. The chalet offers a comfortable contemporary feel using a combination of local materials, natural fabrics and simple, elegant lines. The open-plan living and dining area is comfortable and light, filled with rich woods and fabrics in muted shades of charcoal grey, cream and white. There is a separate TV room next to the drawing room, an internal lift, large south facing balconies on each floor, a huge outdoor Jacuzzi set in a teak deck, and a spacious wellness/sauna area.
The six bedrooms are spread over all three floors and five have direct views of the Matterhorn. The master bedroom is truly spectacular, occupying the entire top floor and featuring an open fire and a high pitched sloping ceiling.
Downstairs there is a spa area with a sauna and massage room, and outside is a sunny south-facing terrace with a Jacuzzi and sun loungers.

Lying under the world famous Matterhorn (4478m), Zermatt is an idyllic car-free town, in the German-speaking Canton of Valais. Initially a modest farming village with wooden barns and cobbled streets still seen today, Zermatt offers something for everyone. It boasts the world’s highest Glacial Palace at 3,883m, and delights visitors with its charming cobbled medieval streets lined with fashion boutiques and chocolate shops.
Zermatt is famous for its mountain-inspired gastronomy, using local, traditional and artisanal produce to create delicious cuisine.
Ecology too is important, with state-of-the-art solar and hydroelectric technology used to power the lift systems and refuges.
Combined with some of the Alps’ finest skiing and summer hiking, it is no surprise that visitors will regularly return to Zermatt year after year.
