Domaine de La Cavalerie is a property of immense historical depth and creative soul, tucked into the serene landscape of the Luberon. Originally established as a refuge for the Knights Templar over eight centuries ago, the estate was later reimagined and converted into the luxurious residence it is today.
Set within 65 hectares of organic terroir, the estate is a place of absolute seclusion, where the air is scented by pine, lime, and 4,000 award-winning olive trees.
The vast outdoor space is defined by its commitment to natural wellness. The estate features two remarkable freshwater swimming reservoirs; these are ancient stone basins converted into chemical-free pools that use organic filtration to mirror the purity of the surrounding springs. The larger of the two, at 250 square metres, serves as a monumental focal point for the 17th-century farmhouse, while a second 25-metre pool serves the main residence.
Guests can also find restoration in the outdoor spa, which features a sauna and a cold plunge pool, or enjoy quiet reflection in the estate’s consecrated 12th-century chapel.
Over a dedicated five-year restoration, renowned designer Emanuel Ungaro and a team of master craftsmen transformed the two stone structures – La Commanderie and La Bergerie – into a sophisticated sanctuary that balances the property’s medieval significance with Italian-inspired elegance.
The interiors reflect a philosophy of togetherness with plenty of spaces to gather with loved ones. La Commanderie is home to grand living areas filled with curated artwork that highlight the property’s incredible history. Adjacent to it, La Bergerie offers a more minimalist, contemporary aesthetic, featuring a dedicated music room designed for deep listening and creative expression. The culinary experience is central to life at the Domaine; guests can enjoy meals sourced from local Provencal markets, served on vintage tableware in settings ranging from sun-dappled terraces to formal dining halls.
Accommodation is distributed across the two buildings, accommodating up to 21 guests. In La Commanderie, the upper level features six grand suites, including a spectacular Master Suite with a whirlpool bathtub. The main level includes an additional Studio Suite with direct garden access. La Bergerie offers four additional suites; the upper level features a king-size bedroom, while the main level offers three suites with terrace access, including a bespoke room with an in-room bathtub and steam shower. Every space is finished to an exceptional standard, offering a restorative atmosphere that feels both historic and timelessly modern.
