About the area
Villa Alegria is located in Salema, a small village in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, in western Algarve. Salema is part of the Natural Park of south-west Alentejo.
The pretty village has sandy beaches and the descent into the water is gentle, making it a safe place for children to swim.
Salema has a couple of restaurants and bars serving local produce and there are also some gift shops and convenience stores.
The nearest towns are Sagres and Lagos. Sagres is sought out by tourists who wish to surf, hike or cycle because the conditions are great for such activities. Lagos, on the other hand, is famous for its walls which date as far back as the Roman times, when they were built by the Arabs to serve strategic security purposes.
Hiking enthusiasts should make it to Rota Vicentina, a pedestrianised area comprising 350 km of hiking routes, fully marked and divided into manageable 15-25 km paths.
In terms of sporting activities, the area is rich in opportunities both on water and on land: from surfing, diving, fishing, dolphin watching, boating, hiking, or cycling, there is something exciting for everyone to do.
