Hailed as the “Caribbean of Greece”, the Ionian island of Lefkada boasts scenic landscapes with beautiful beaches, stunning waterfalls, and craggy mountains
The Ionian Island of Lefkada is a true Mediterranean gem with its stunning coastline perfectly complemented by its lush, mountainous inland. It is the only Greek island connected to the mainland via a bridge, making it easily accessible.
Known as the “Caribbean of Greece”, the island is home to some of the country’s best beaches with white sands and turquoise waters. The west coast beaches of Porto Katsiki and Egremni are the most well-known on the island, with crystal-clear waters overlooked by impressive, sheer cliffs. The less sheltered beaches of Agios Ioannis and Vassiliki are perfect for windsurfing, kite surfing, and other water sports.
The mountainous inland is ideal for hiking, cycling, and mountain biking. Many trails lead visitors to quaint villages, lush forests, tranquil lagoons teeming with wildlife, and cascading hidden waterfalls.
Lefkada Town is the island’s vibrant hub and capital. It features narrow alleyways, traditional tavernas serving local delicacies, fascinating museums, beautiful 18th-century churches, and the historic Venetian Agia Mavra Castle.
The nearby islands of Meganisi, Ithaca, and Kefalonia are all easily reached by boat, making them great destinations for day trips.
