A city that leaves you breathless
‘Unique’ is an overworked adjective but few places can claim its rightful use as Venice. A triumph of human engineering and fortitude- a city built on 118 islands with a myriad of canals and waterways. Romantic, enchanting and everchanging- this is a dynamic city that continues to flourish, create and beguile. Visit St Marks Square, walk the Rialto Bridge or the Bridge of Sighs, be amazed at Gothic Palazzos lining the Grand Canal and Byzantine mosaics. Shop for stunning Murano glass and enjoy both the ancient and Contemporray Art which abounds in the numerous museums (in particular the Galleria Dell Accademia di Venezia- one of Italy’s best). Ride a Vaporetto or take a Gondola, go out to the islands (Murano or Burano especially) and visit the Jewish quarter. This is a pedestrian’s city and it is surprisingly easy to lose the crowds and wander the alleyways, pausing to pinch yourself (yes, there really is water lapping at people’s front doors) or just to sit and linger over a refreshing glass of Prosecco and fresh pasta.
