An impressive estate abounding in history and charm
Dating back to the 14th century, Dimora Ghirlandaio is a charming estate comprising of a hamlet and a farm which produces excellent quality olive oil. Situated just outside of Florence, it is ideally located in the heart of Chianti’s countryside, making it a great base for exploring the towns and cities of Tuscany.
This magnificent property was once owned by a family of painters and used to host some of the most well-known artists of the Renaissance era including Raffaello, Pontormo and Botticelli.
Nowadays, guests can completely unwind in the picturesque setting with rolling green hills as a backdrop and surrounded by 30 acres of vineyards, olive groves, forest and a lake.
Outdoors, guests can enjoy the large swimming pool, landscaped gardens, and panoramic walkways.
There is also an indoor wellness centre with a Jacuzzi, sauna, hammam and massage treatment room, plus a well-equipped mini-gym.
Spreading over five buildings and hosting up to 40 guests in its 20 bedrooms, the property is an amazing location for hosting corporate events, or special celebrations with loved ones. The frescoed chapel painted by Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio is the perfect spot for an intimate wedding ceremony.
The interior of the main villa has been totally refurbished using antique furniture and keeping its old charm, complemented by luxury finishing touches. There are plenty of common areas where guests can gather or relax including several beautiful lounges with fireplaces, an elegant dining room, and a fully-equipped kitchen.
The sleeping area of the villa consists of five bedrooms. The master bedroom is the only room on the top floor and it has a 360° magnificent view over the whole property and over Florence. There is also a dependence ideal for accommodating a person of staff.
The Fattoria features four bedrooms, all of them located on the top floor. The ground floor has a living room and dining room perfect for wine or olive oil tastings, along with a study, and a fully-equipped kitchen.
The Frantoio is the building where the owners used to make the olive oil. It is comprised of a large living room and a separate dining room, two well-equipped kitchen and three double bedrooms. Beside the spacious courtyard there is an external dependence with an extra en-suite bedroom, ideal for those seeking a little more privacy.
The Bottega was formerly used as a space for the family to display their artworks. Today this building features a large living and dining room, a well-equipped kitchen, and two en-suite bedrooms.
Finally, the Studio is the place where the family used to paint. It has been transformed into a small villa with a spacious living and dining room, a small kitchen, and four well-appointed bedrooms spread over the first and second floors.
Dimora Ghirlandaio is perfect for groups of families and friends travelling together, and it ticks all the boxes for an unforgettable holiday, totally immersed in the Italian way of living.
NB: Dimora Ghirlandaio proudly accommodates an in-house artist. He is a well-known American painter/printmaker whose work can be found in private collections and galleries around the world, including the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. He stays in a separate, private quarter of the estate and only shares the main entrance with guests; he has no access to the buildings or open spaces occupied by guests. On request, painting or drawing lessons with the artist can be arranged.
