Historic island with atmospheric old town

Rhodes

The island of Rhodes is by far the largest in the Dodecanese archipelago and is UNESCO World Heritage listed due to its historical importance. There are many medieval castles throughout the island including the 14th Century Palace of the Grand Master.

The Old Town of Rhodes is beautifully-preserved, made up of cobbled streets and alleys, elegant mansions and a medieval castle, all surrounded by strong walls.

Further south is the picturesque town of Lindos, with its sugar cube houses on a hill topped with the ancient Acropolis of Lindos. The Acropolis was first fortified in the 6th century BC, though the remaining battlements were constructed by the Knights of St John, the source of the island’s nickname - “Knights’ Island”.

Sports enthusiasts will find much to do on Rhodes with the landscapes of the island made up of sandy beaches and wooded valleys, making it great for kite and wind surfing, as well as hiking and mountain biking.
