Luxury Ski Chalets in Cortina

Cortina is the perfect place for a luxury holiday in the heart of the Dolomites, offering skiing, hiking, and plenty of style.

Luxury Ski Chalets in Cortina

Cortina d’Ampezzo - or simply, Cortina - is Italy’s answer to St Moritz or Megève. Elegant prosecco bars cluster along the cobbled streets while the names of designer ski brands beckon from boutique windows. Bistros serve up cheese-topped spätzle and smoky goulash. By winter, you can hear the rush of skiers on the slopes. By summer, it’s the clink of hiking poles on cobblestone.

Most of all, luxury chalets in Cortina are a ticket to one of the most eye-watering corners of the Dolomites. A symphony of jagged peaks creates an amphitheatre around the town – the serrated tops of Monte Cristallo to the north, the shark fin of Monte Pelmo to the south. Hidden within are pine-filled valleys and glistening highland lakes so clear you’d think they were glass.

When the snows fall – usually between December and April – people come to luxury chalets in Cortina for one main reason: Skiing. The town is the hub of the resort, which spans two sides of the valley. It runs up the slopes of Monte Cristallo to give challenging red runs on its eastern side. On the western side, you can find cruisy, tree-lined runs under the granite walls of the Tofana di Dentro massif.

In the warmer months, hiking, cycling and golf are some of the main draws. If you’re feeling adventurous, Cortina sits right on the courses of the legendary Alta Via 1 hiking trail, which zigzags through the eastern Italian Alps from north to south. Though it takes 10 days to do the whole thing, smaller sections can be completed in just a few hours.

Alternatively, skip the trails and take the cable car up to the incredible lookouts of Rifugio Lagazuoi. This traditional mountain hut offers spectacular views of the dagger-like summits of the Dolomites, which can be enjoyed from the lookouts or the outdoor sauna.
